facebook engagementIf you read a lot of social media tips online you’ll notice that most are in agreement that images are the clear winner in the quest for better Facebook page engagement. We love to test theories and tips to see just how true they are and in this case… not so much. If you truly know the brand you are Facebooking for and truly know the audience you should be able to see comparable engagement with text, video and link posts as well. This isn’t easy though. You need to have an engaged audience. You also need to engage with your audience in order to receive continued engagement. It’s easy to share the latest Internet meme or craze and get likes. It’s also easy to buy 5,000 Facebook likes for $20, but we all know where both of those strategies get us in the end…. Definitely not where you want to be.

Ways to generate higher engagement with text posts on Facebook

Are you geographically based?

Ask questions about the weather, breaking local POSITIVE news and  local festivities. People love voicing their opinions so why not encourage it on your page? Just make sure it fits into the overall goal of your page. If it’s to reach more local people then this can do it.

Are you a restaurant?

Ask fans what their favorite meal is at your establishment. Example post: “You could have one meal delivered to you today from our restaurant, what do you order?” OR “You’re gifted a dinner for 2 to our restaurant, who do you take and why?”

You can make so many variations of these posts and people that love your food will come out of the woodwork to answer!

Does your page attract business owners?

If it does give them a chance to promote their stuff on your page. Posts like “Do you have a Facebook page you’d like to share? Post it in the comments below” have generated 100 x’s the engagement of images for many of our clients, but this only works if you are targeting business and page owners.

Generic questions that work for all types of Facebook pages

  • Do you have a Twitter (or other social media account)? We’d love to connect with you so share it below!
  • What’s your favorite day of the week and why?
  • What are your plans or goals today?
  • Questions regarding current trends
  • Questions allowing your fans to post their opinion

Images are great and can be used to generate all types of engagement, but it’s not the only thing that will encourage engagement nor is it always the best decision. Only you can really know what’s best for your page after testing all avenues.
