Directly from Facebook’s small business blog:

It’s now Easier to Administer Promotions on Facebook
We’ve updated our Pages Terms in order to make it easier for businesses of all sizes to create and administer promotions on Facebook. Here’s what Page administrators need to know:
We’ve removed the requirement that promotions on Facebook only be administered through apps
Now, promotions may be administered on Page Timelines and in apps on Facebook. For example, businesses can now:

Collect entries by having users post on the Page or comment/like a Page post

Collect entries by having users message the Page

Utilize likes as a voting mechanism

As before, however, businesses cannot administer promotions on personal Timelines.
Accurate tagging is required in promotions
In order to maintain the accuracy of Page content, our Pages Terms now prohibit Pages from tagging or encouraging people to tag themselves in content that they are not actually depicted in. So, for instance:

Social Media Tips For #FWConf13 Attendees

Posted on July 18th, by Kim Randall in Social Media, Social Media Events, Social Media Tips. 2 comments

If you’re like us then you must be super excited for the start of the first annual Food and Wine Conference in Orlando. Since this conference has a strong Social Media focus we thought we would share some tips to help you get the most out of the event both offline and online.

Know your Social Media Limits

Twitter seems to be the most limiting platform in regards to updates. They limit image updates (fed from Instagram, twitpic or directly through Twitter) to 30 per day. You also need to be careful not to land yourself in Twitter Jail. Twitter’s way of disabling your account for a while because you’ve either Tweeted more than 100 Tweets in an hour OR Tweeted more than 1,000 Tweets in a 24 hour period.

Follow The Event Hashtag

The official event hashtag is #FWConf13. You can use dashboards … Read More »

Is That Social Media Update Relevant To Your Brand?

Coming up with a new update to post every day can become extremely difficult at times. Weekly specials stay the same week after week and your connections eventually get bored seeing such repetitive posts. Can you blame them? How bored would you get if you saw the same post from your favorite restaurant day after day after day?

What to do…. What to do?!

Well I guess you could start posting about local news. That works, right?

It does work, on occasion especially with breaking news, happy stories and must know updates, but don’t turn your business social media platforms  into local news media streams. There’s a reason why we have local news.

You could start posting cat pictures.

Why not?! Cats live on the Internet so they might as well make a home on your Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, right? Once again…. It works … Read More »

4 Mobile Social Apps Restaurants Need To Be Aware Of

Posted on March 27th, by Kim Randall in Featured, Social Media, Social Media Tips. No Comments

Mobile Social Apps Are Changing The Restaurant Industry

Times have changed. It’s no longer essential to get the best ad placement in your neighborhood newspaper to showcase your specials, deals and new menu items. No, print isn’t dead, but there are more effective ways to get in front of this target in a more long term successful way. The Internet has provided a platform for many innovative companies to create applications and websites that attract YOUR potential customers. Are you a little curious?

Yelp

Yelp is a crowd-sourced business review platform that has a lot of awesome and usually unknown features.

* The mobile app allows for geo based searching. You can see the menu, get directions and call right from the app on your phone.

* Businesses can set up check-in deals for those that wish to tell their Yelp (Facebook and/ or Twitter) … Read More »

Google+ Makes Business Page Changes You Should Be Aware Of

Posted on March 6th, by Kim Randall in Featured, Google+, Social Media, Social Media Tips. No Comments

Google+ Pages just changed, again. Here are some changes that you need to know about.

1. Your logo/ picture avatar has moved and is no longer square shaped. Does your image look silly in a circle shape?

2. The cover photo has changed in size. Your cover photo might need to be changed as well due to the new location of the avatar image.

3. The sidebar no longer contains the “Circle the page” section.

4. The “Circle the page” area is now on the right side of the cover photo (remember this when designing your cover photo).

5. The +1 button is also in the cover photo area so design accordingly.

6. The “About” section has an entirely new look and feel (so do the photos and videos, just not as drastic).

Have you noticed any other note-worthy changes? Let … Read More »

Social Media Speaks Out About The Senseless School Shooting in Connecticut

Posted on December 14th, by Kim Randall in Social Media. No Comments

Twitter, Facebook, Google+ and every other social media site out there has broken out with sympathies to the victims and their families of today’s senseless school shooting where at least 20 children and 6 adults have been killed. Companies have opted to post their sympathies and nothing more for the day out of respect for those that have lost their lives. People have taken to Twitter to reflect on what’s important in life, spread the word about the latest updates and to vent about gun control laws and the sanity of the shooter.

While social media can be  a great place for immediate updates sometimes the information can be incorrect. People Tweet something incorrect and before you know it someone’s Twitter account is being spammed as the Twitter account of the gunman.

We watched this Twitter account go from 20 followers to … Read More »

Social Media Success Doesn’t Happen Overnight

Posted on August 7th, by Kim Randall in Social Media, Social Media Success. No Comments

It’s easy to think that all social media campaigns are successful almost immediately, but sadly they aren’t. Not unless you happen to end up with a genius viral video or you’re pretty darn famous and let’s face it… that’s not very likely to happen meaning that you have to work at your campaign in order to find success. You need to nurture your platforms just as you would a child.

Here are a few tips that will help you, over time, achieve success through social media:

☑ Log onto your social media platforms daily, update, engage with others all while creating a unique strategy.

☑ Find out what your competitors are not doing and do that.

☑ Be where your target audience is and engage with them, not as a salesperson, but rather as an acquaintance.

☑ Be social, not promotional.

☑ Don’t give up. If things don’t appear to … Read More »

2 iPad Apps Helping Companies Manage Multiple Social Accounts

Posted on August 6th, by Kim Randall in Social Media. No Comments

We are often asked how we are able to manage as many social profiles as we do for all of our clients. We use quite a few apps that help us monitor, manage, listen and update different social platforms allowing us the ability to quickly and efficiently take care of business. Here are two of our favorite applications:

Facebook Pages for iPad

Why we love this app: The minute someone interacts with a page we manage we are notified making our response time quicker than most.

Echofon for iPad

Just like the Facebook pages app, Echofon allows us to monitor and manage all Twitter accounts making it easy for us to switch between accounts keeping our response time low.

We are always on the lookout for apps that allow us to keep our campaigns social, just as they should be!

What apps do you use to … Read More »

Facebook Advertising Fail

Posted on July 24th, by Kim Randall in Facebook Tips, Social Media. No Comments

Last week we were Tweeting with some of our connections when we saw a post from one that cut our eye. A Twitter connection had seen an ad that was obviously targeting her for one reason or another, clicked it and much to her surprise… was not directed to the pedicure promotion she had clicked on from LivingSocial. This makes me wonder how many other companies are doing things like this and why they would even bother. Let’s be real for a minute. If you are advertising pedicures, but the landing page is selling tires, how many sales do you really think you’re going to make?

False advertisement should be banned from Facebook and is considered spam. Don’t be that company that scams others!

Becoming the Brand For More Successful Campaigns

Posted on July 3rd, by Kim Randall in Social Media. No Comments

From the first client we retained through KiMedia Strategies to the clients we have today, we have always believed in building our clients Social Media presence as organically and targeted as possible. This means that unless we truly believe that our personal connections can find value in the client, event or product… we simply do not post or talk about it through our own channels. The reason for this is simple…. Just like buying likes, clicks and followers; asking our personal networks to engage with a brand that they have no desire to hear about only creates a false social community. Sure instantly having hundreds of likes would be great, but what happens when there’s no engagement? What happens when nothing is actually happening?

Something to think about….
