Social Media Tips For Small Businesses

Thanksgiving is behind us, Black Friday is over in just a few minutes and next up we have “Small Business Saturday”. A day where the focus is on shopping small and shopping local. Sadly the big box stores are continuing many of their sales and specials straight through the weekend and into Cyber Monday. Let us share with you some ways to make some noise online to get customers in your door and purchasing your goods and services.

Small business social media tips

  • Claim your venue on Foursquare and take advantage of creating specials as well as updating daily. People use Foursquare to see what’s around them so let your business be the one that stands out.
  • Monitor the Twitter-webz – see who’s talking about shopping in your area with tools like Monitter.com that allow you to track conversations in specific geographical locations.
  • Broadcast your sales on the social web – Use Facebook, Twitter, Google+, YouTube, Tumblr and any other site where you’ve built an audience.
  • Use hashtags and keywords that people might be following – #Sale #SmBizSat #SmallBizSaturday #ClothingSale #SaveonToys etc….
  • Spend a few dollars and run some ads on Facebook, just make sure you’ve keyed into the geographical location where you’re business is located.
  • Team up with local non-competing businesses to have a louder voice and a stronger message.
  • Cross promote with other local businesses – Example: visit _____ and receive a coupon for a free ___ at your shop…
  • Keep the promotions going online all day, don’t let your voice go silent online.
  • Encourage sharing by your customers by promoting a special if they share, Tweet or like something.
  • Keep the message consistent online and off.
  • Yelp is another platform you can use to offer specials to people that are in your place of business.

There are a lot of ways you can promote your business and sales on Small Business Saturday and these are just a few that can benefit “most” types of small, local businesses. It’s possible your business can benefit from a full strategy moving forward through the holidays and into 2013.
