Social Media Speaks Out About The Senseless School Shooting in Connecticut

Twitter, Facebook, Google+ and every other social media site out there has broken out with sympathies to the victims and their families of today’s senseless school shooting where at least 20 children and 6 adults have been killed. Companies have opted to post their sympathies and nothing more for the day out of respect for those that have lost their lives. People have taken to Twitter to reflect on what’s important in life, spread the word about the latest updates and to vent about gun control laws and the sanity of the shooter.

While social media can be  a great place for immediate updates sometimes the information can be incorrect. People Tweet something incorrect and before you know it someone’s Twitter account is being spammed as the Twitter account of the gunman.

We watched this Twitter account go from 20 followers to over 3500 in mere minutes all because people are uninformed. Please respect those that are not at fault, don’t make them a victim as well.

Sadly we’re also seeing people trying to capitalize on the name by changing their Facebook picture, name and posting to follow and subscribe. The things people and businesses will do for an extra like or subscriber is sickening. Multiple fanpages are created for the suspected shooter which makes us question why people would even want to create a fanpage for someone that had so much hate inside of them.

News outlets unfortunately incorrectly confirmed the shooter spreading the picture of an innocent man.

While social media is a great place to get updates so quickly we need to make sure we are spreading correct information.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families.
